The Temple Mount in Jerusalem is the holiest site in Judaism, regarded as the place where God’s presence dwells and the direction Jews face in prayer. The Second Temple stood here from 516 BC until 70 AD.
This drawing shows the Mount as it looked in that final year, from the western side. It was created by Martha Ritmeyer from precise details provided by Prof. Benjamin Mazar, lead archaeologist of the Temple Mount excavations, and it labels the main areas of interest.
