The Menorah Medallion: A Jerusalem Treasure
For 1,400 years a gold medallion lay buried beside the southern wall of the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. Renowned Israeli archaeologist Dr. Eilat Mazar, who discovered it, estimates it was abandoned during the Persian conquest of Jerusalem in 614 CE.
The medallion once adorned a Torah scroll. It is engraved with three Jewish symbols: the seven-branched Temple Menorah, the Shofar and the Torah scroll. Israel’s Prime Minister called the find “historic testimony, of the highest order, to the Jewish people’s link to Jerusalem”.
The replica and the book
This pendant recreates the medallion in sterling silver and 14K gold plate. It was designed by Michael Oestermann and produced by Israeli designer Maayan Ayash for the “Togetherness” collection. Each necklace comes with Dr. Mazar’s book, “The Discovery of the Menorah Treasure: At the Foot of the Temple Mount”.
