Second Temple Incense Set of 4: Spikenard, Frankincense, Myrrh and Cassia
The Incense Offering stood at the center of the Temple ceremonies. Its precise mixture of holy spices, the Ketoret Besamim (Exodus 30:34-38), was burned evening and morning on the golden Incense Altar by the Cohanim, and its preparation by the Master Perfumer was a closely guarded secret.
What the kit contains
- Spikenard: flowers of Lavandula officinalis
- Frankincense: sap of the Boswellia tree
- Myrrh: sap of the Commiphora tree
- Cassia: cinnamon-cassia, a relative of cinnamon
Names familiar from the Gospels and the Song of Songs become something you can see up close. The set is for decoration, to bring the blessing of plenitude into your home, and for teaching about worship in the Second Temple.
