From the time the ancient Israelites wandered through the desert of Sinai, the seven-branched menorah has symbolized their connection to the Lord. Since the time King Solomon built a Temple in Jerusalem, until the year 70 C.E., when the Roman general Titus destroyed the Second Temple and brought the menorah to Rome as a trophy of war, the Menorah was situated in the Temple and became one of the central symbols of the Jewish nation.
